Malawi Cultural Village

Get the African village experience at Kumbali Cultural Village.  Located within walking distance from Kumbali Country Lodge, the Village has accommodation, traditional and international food, a bar, local arts & crafts stalls, and a covered outdoor meeting space / conference facility.  It is a great place for families or large groups of people to get a snapshot of the rich tradition and culture of the Malawian people.

Accommodation

There are twelve huts of varying size and architectural style. The mud huts, which can be found all over Malawi, are beautifully decorated in the traditional way.  There are also wood panelled huts, which are typical of the North, as well as the lake shore style huts with reed walls.  All of the roofs are made of quality traditional grass thatch which creates a pleasant atmosphere at all times of the year.

Upon arrival, guests will be shown to their hut and given a bucket for outside bathing. Hot water is made daily.  All bedding, including sheets, pillow, blanket, etc. are provided as well as a mosquito net.

Food and Drink

Kumbali Cultural Village is a great place to experience the traditional Malawian cuisine such as nsima (staple food made from grain flour, usually maize), pumpkin leaves with groundnut flour, amaranth leaves, beans with tomato and onion relish, and mandazi (fried dough) with honey for dessert. Whether for a small group or 120 people, the experience kitchen staff can cater for a traditional meal or more contemporary, international cuisine.

Facilities and Entertainment

After a delicious meal, guests can make their way to the fire pit where the indigenous trees and natural materials used make a perfect backdrop for traditional song, dance and drumming with the Kumbali Band.  Guests can learn how to dance and drum in the traditional Malawian style as well as sing along to the international favourites of Bob Marley, the Beatles, etc.

The large covered seating area can hold up to 60 and is great for meetings and workshops.  All necessary equipment can be requested, such as flipchart stands, overhead projects, etc and the kitchen can cater event to the client specifications.
